Vintage laces are so fun! It's great to search for them at the bottom of a basket in an antique store. Sometimes I just see a piece of lace out of the corner of my eye in a wire basket and then dig through a pile of linens and notions to see what's available.
It's fun to see how laces are packaged to sell. The photo above tells it all. The person who wound up this lace really was inventive, as well as frugal. This lid was from a one-pound Food Club oleo container -- not really sure of the year, but the price was 63 cents. (Currently, store brand margarines cost between $2 and $3 when they are not on sale.)
Believe it or not, I know some ladies who would still choose to store their lace this way. Plastic containers from food containers are great to use from everything from craft projects to leftovers. It seems we always need to save something food-related for vacation Bible school projects.
It's not really food-related, but I save the cardboard pieces from bias tape packages on which to wind my lace, which is how the lace shown here is currently stored. Maybe you can spot it on one of my aprons!
