A very muscular man is seen harvesting corn on the front of the vintage seed sack that used for this apron.
The heavy weight sack once was used for Carlson's Champion Hybrid Corn, a company based in Audubon, Iowa. Around the picture of the man are the words "World Champion Brand Hybrid Seed." Colors used are red, green and yellow. Above the logo are the words "1 Bu. Net." There also is a marker indicating where the bag should be opened.
The apron sides were created from vintage fabric that has been doubled. The floral design, in gold, green and red, has the look of a crewel work piece. The apron is trimmed in black. To adjust the length, simply place a knot in the neck tie where desired.
The apron does have a few issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack, as well as some darker spots on the bodice area. There are a few snags in the fabric that eventually could become holes. The design on the sack has better colors than many I have seen, so you will have to be extra careful washing this apron. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 10 1/2 inches.
The waist is 25 1/2 inches.
The length is 32 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 30 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes small, medium or large.
Carlson Seed, now of Blanchard, Iowa, has this information on the company website:
Larry and Esther Carlson farmed, fed cattle, trucked grain and livestock and had a small seed business, selling O’s Gold/Asgrow. Son Terry eventually purchased and operated Carlson & Son, Inc., (a trucking company) and then formed Carlson Seed, Inc., for the seed business. O’s Gold was purchased by Monsanto, and Carlson Seed, Inc., now sells Dekalb/Asgrow under the Bayer Corporation. It continues to be a family run business.
* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
