Master Mix feeds had a great company history, and the vintage feed sack used for this apron is part of it!
The very faded sack was for layer concentrate, a feed supplement with a high concentrate of nutrients for laying hens. The design is in blue and red with lots of angled lines. It reads:
Master Mix
Layer Concentrate
McMillen Feed Mills For
Central Soya Co.
Company locations follow, but are very faded and difficult to read. The back of the sack, with the same design, was used to make the apron sides. The apron is trimmed in dark turquoise blue. To adjust the length, simply place a knot in the neck tie where desired. Cold water wash and line dry are recommended to prevent fading and shrinking.
Besides being very faded, the apron does have a few other issues, including general stains as are typical of this age of sack. There are some darker spots here and there as shown in the last photo, but overall the apron is fairy clean. Please consider all of these factors before purchase.
The bodice width is 12 1/2 inches.
The waist is 32 1/2 inches.
The length is 33 inches from the top bodice center to the hemline.
The waist ties are each 28 inches.
This apron best fits women's sizes medium, large or extra large.
According to the SoyInfo Center, Master Mix feeds developed from a company started in 1916 by Dale “Mr. Mac” McMillen. In 1929 the company merged with American Milling Company to form Allied Mills. He left after two years and opened a soybean crushing plant, calling it Central Soya. McMillen Feed Mills was organized a month later as a division of the new company to produce Master Mix feeds.
* Please keep in mind this apron was created from an authentic vintage cloth sack. Photos show the design and print darker than in actuality. While the apron is described as accurately as possible, due to the vintage quality there may be age marks not noted specifically. Also, finding some or many seeds or feed pieces caught in the fabric is quite common. The bags have been washed at least once and many seed/feed pieces have already been removed, but some may remain.
